Good morning !!!
Thought i would start with a little background first.
My name is Dani (Danielle if you wanna be specific) i am a single mom of 4 children that range in age from 4-11. Over the last year i have done tons of research on homesteading on a 1 acre lot. I have read books, blogs and countless videos. So now that i have done all this i wanted to bring people real life insight on how much actually goes into my crazy life.
To start i have quite the variety of animals and they all have a purpose.
Bacon & Ham Hawk : these are our pigs. My kids say that we should have named them something different but i feel if you give them a name like a dog or cat when it come time to take them to what i call the barber shop (butcher) you will have a hard time doing so because you have a different connection with them. So i named them for what they will be one day. Not only can we feed our food scraps to them but they are also a great inexpensive tiller.
Missy & Bill: our goats. These goats have been a royal pain in my butt.... However they do have a purpose. They keep the weeds and grass down for the most part. The plus side is when she kids (has babies) we get milk do do other things with (soap, lotion, cheese, cream ect.) I will touch on all that later
Chickens & Rooster : as you know you get chicken, eggs, and more chickens
Ducks : great for breeding and selling. Not to mention eggs and meat
I also have 5 dogs and 6 cats and 3 rabbits and my 4 crazy kids...
The purpose of my blog is to let ya'll know that it is possible to do. It takes a lot of work and dedication but you can do it. Not every day is the same and not everything will go your way all the time but with a little patience and time you can do it. I will be here to help you and give tips and advice along the way.
